The Hydrographic Society UK
Promotes the science of surveying over water and related disciplines and fosters recognised standards of education and training for those engaged in, or intending to engage in, the hydrographic profession. For this purpose the Society maintains an Education Fund providing practical assistance to those at, or near, the start of their careers.
The Hydrographic Society UK, which is a UK registered charity and a member of the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies, operates in conjunction with the Federation in the regular promotion and organisation of symposia, seminars and technical workshops at a regional, national and international level as well as by working with other bodies associated with surveying and associated marine sciences.
As well as receiving the Society's own quarterly newsletter soundings, all members of The Hydrographic Society UK receive the internationally renowned Hydrographic Journal published by the International Federation.
Additional benefits for Corporate and Associate Corporate Members include a second copy of each edition of the Journal, the opportunity to publish news items in the Journal and a range of discounted advertising opportunities.
The Hydrographic Society UK has a number of well established, active Regions which offer members a range of local services, technical meetings and opportunities to meet up with colleagues. These Regions are in East Anglia, Scotland, North West, Southern and South West England. In recent years two Regions have also been established outside the UK – one in Ireland and the other in the Middle East.
Members who do not naturally fall into any of these geographical groups may elect to join the International Chapter. In addition to selecting a Region based on their location, student members may also opt to join the Student Chapter.
Further details about the structure and management of The Hydrographic Society UK, its programme of events, resource downloads and Regional contacts can be found on the Society's website.
