The Charles Close Society was founded in 1980 to bring together all those with a professional and amateur interest in the maps, plans and related materials of the Ordnance Surveys of Great Britain and Ireland. Its aim is to foster the exchange of information and to make it available in a serial publication, "Sheetlines", and in the form of specialised monographs and guides to Ordnance Survey map series. It encourages and coordinates research on Ordnance Survey mapping and practice. For more information on the society's activities and for details of its wide variety of publications visit www.charlesclosesociety.org.uk. The AGM was held on 17 May 2008 at Tiffin School, Kingston immediately after a tallk by Brian Quinn on Cassini Maps. Honorary Membership was conferred on C. Ian O'Brien and the Hodson Award was presented to John Cruickshank. Members were able to preview a re-launched web site during the afternoon.
